Toy Soldiers is a tower defense game developed by Signal Studios and published by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 in 2010. The game is set during the First World War, with players taking control of either the British or Germans and protecting their toy box from advancing waves of enemy units. That's right, toy box. The game is actually a game, and all the units are toys and diorama models. Players can take control of individual towers to help defend the box, and are offered a wide variety of units to use, from tanks and planes, to machine gun nests and artillery pieces, and even flamethrowers and mortars. The game features both a campaign and survival mode, as well as multiplayer. The game modes are all the same, except the campaign features a string of scenarios loosely based on real battles such as Polygon Wood or Ypres, and feature a boss battle every three missions. The campaign can be played from both sides, with the German Campaign being a more difficult version of the British Campaign and some minor map differences. Two DLC campaigns were added as well, one which allowed the player to play as the French during the Kaiserschlat offensive, and one as the Germans fighting a fictional war against invading space toys. Overall the game is really impressive and fun to play, and received two sequels: Toy Soldiers Cold War, and Toy Soldiers War Chest.
