Toyota Hilux Champ Arctic Trucks Style Render
41About a month ago, the affordable Hilux Champ pickup truck was introduced. Kolesa, a Russian outlet, showcased it with an off-road upgrade, similar to those by Arctic Trucks.
The Toyota Hilux Champ, launched in November, is the commercial version of the IMV 0 concept (IMV stands for Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle). This project targets mainly emerging markets, which explains why Thailand was chosen for its debut – a country where such vehicles are in high demand.
The Hilux Champ features a basic, practical design. A notable aspect is its small wheels (14 inches standard), a choice made to keep costs down. However, Arctic Trucks-style modifications can enhance its capabilities. The modified version sports increased ground clearance, largely due to bigger, high-profile tires. These tires necessitate larger wheel arches and added extensions. The truck also gets a snorkel (a pipe-like air intake for underwater engine operation), mounted near the windshield pillar, along with modified sills, side walls, and extra lights in front.
The Hilux Champ has a frame-based build with an independent double wishbone front suspension and a rear dependent spring. It features front ventilated disc and rear drum brakes. Structurally similar to the larger Hilux model, it shares the same engine options: a 2.0-liter 139 horsepower and a 2.7-liter 166 horsepower petrol engines, and a 2.4-liter 150 horsepower diesel engine.
