A very busy hours session spent at New Malden station on the South Western Mainline where we see plenty of services from South Western Railway. The station was opened in 1846 by the London and South Western Railway, when the station was opened it was simply called Malden. During the stations lifespan its gone through several different names. In 1859 it became New Malden and Coombe, in 1862 it was changed to Coombe and Malden, 1912 it was called Malden for Coombe, 1955 it was then changed to Malden and eventually in 1957 it was changed to New Malden.

There is a plaque located at the station commemorating the station staff that were sadly killed during an air raid in WW2.

Bizarrely the central island platforms are in theory still in use despite their overgrown appearance. Despite the platforms still being known as in use they technically can't be used on grounds of safety, there are wires protruding from the gravelly surface which would poses a trip hazard.

My next station is Raynes Park.
