TRIALS OF MANA (Most fun way to fight Light Benevodon (See video description for details)
In this fight, I use the best strategy that I can think of that will keep this boss fight challenging and yet still be able to destroy 3 purple bar targets with style.
First of all, the level for my party is level 51 VS level 55 for the Light benevodon (the 7th benevodon I fight for this save file).
I wasn't able to destroy the purple targets without any buffs at this level; I needed to use Riesz' strength buff on everyone.
I also haven't upgraded any weapons or armor since the benevodons appeared.
Secondly, Angela is grand diviner (light-light), so she doesn't too much damage with her dark magic spells.
Magus does way more damage with the Wound Magic abilities, so if you want the fight to last longer, then you shouldn't use Magus or don't use Wound Magic abilities or the more powerful dark magic spell (uses 12 MP).
You could argue that I just shouldn't use Angela then, but I've already tried that, and the fight lasts much longer and becomes boring because I can't damage the light boss frequently enough.
I don't know if it's necessary to use Hawkeye's special move that increases a character's HP by 25% or so, but I usually do this for boss battles due running out of healing items does occur with this party.
Personally, I think this is Hawkeye's best ability due it's similar to Charlotte's over heal ability.
It's obviously not as good because you have to cast it 3 times and then heal to the new max, but for this party that doesn't have healing light, every little bit helps.
Before the purple bar target appears, the light boss will cast light saber on one of your characters, which is usually the character you're controlling.
After taking some more damage, then the purple bar targets will appear.
In order to get rid of this light saber, it's best to use the dark saber item or ability so it doesn't get rid of any buffs you have on that character.
Having the Light saber won't affect a character's ability to destroy a purple bar target, but if you want to do a class strike with that character after the purple bar is destroyed, then the light boss will absorb that damage.
Also, it's not necessary to give everyone the dark saber - as long as they're buffed by Riesz or the strength item, any character other than Riesz can destroy the purple bar with 2 level 1 class strikes.
Riesz' level 1 class strikes either don't do enough damage VS the purple bar targets or you have to get very close to do the class strike.
I failed to destroy the purple bar target despite hitting it with 2 level 1 class strikes (I didn't keep this recording).
But if you get very close, that's wasting time - everyone else's level 1 class strike are better for this boss due they charge at the target while doing damage.
I also have Hawkeye use the green pot to heal everyone instead of Angela to use that time for Angela to attack with magic.
Otherwise, I usually have whoever is low on life to heal themselves in case they die before they get healed.
That way, I don't waste a heal item if the character is already dead.
If this party had Healing Light, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but this party doesn't have Healing Light, so I need to conserve healing items when I can.
Finally, it looks like Riesz' light-dark level 3 class strike traps the light benevodon - I thought the boss would teleport before Riesz' class strike could get full damage in, but the boss wasn't able to teleport in time.
I think destroying the purple bar target for this boss is challenging due it teleports and can't be reliably destroyed with 1 Level 2 class strike, but Angela kills this boss easily, so this is how I make this boss fight as challenging as I can within reason.
Some people may wonder why I just don't play on Expert mode, but I already tried it, and I think it's boring because the enemies barely take any damage.
If anyone knows a better way to make this fight challenging, let me know in the comments.
DETAILS ABOUT MY PARTY:
Riesz is Starlancer (light-dark), Hawkeye is light-light, and Angela is Grand Diviner (light-light).
The difficulty is Hard Mode.
Note that although this save file is New Game+, I don't use any ability that I didn't learn during this save file except for 4 (Lucky Find I & II, Chaos Protection, and Cactus Soul).
Same goes for equipment except for Mana Brace & Mana Bracelet.
If you'd like to see me fight VS a specific boss with a specific characters & classes, let me know in the comments.
I have a save file near the end for multiple parties, so I could easily make a video for those parties.
Note, I only have 1 save file with Hawkeye due I don't like him.
