Tunic – Ziggurat Elevator Skip Demonstration
\/ EXPLANATION BELOW \/
This is a demonstration of me skipping the elevator after the first Admin fight in Ziggurat using several methods. This was all done using analog inputs (controller, not keyboard) and the position of my left stick is shown. In all the demonstrations except the Alt+F4 setup, I'm using a glitched save file that lets me revert to the top of the elevator by continuing from the title screen.
== Simple Setup ==
This probably isn't the fastest setup, but I was trying to find the simplest possible setup that would work consistently. No targeting is needed, nor any items. All I'm doing in moving the fox to the right edge of the bridge and then walking with the analog stick held about half way up and slightly right. Getting the speed right seems to be the most important part from my experiments.
This does work on higher framerates, but it took more tries on average.
== Sword Swipe ==
My setup is to position the fox on the left side of the light strip. Target down or slightly left of down (the angle doesn't seem to be precise). Swipe the sword (which pushes the fox forward) and then move slowly back to the original position. If I get back to the original position without falling, then swipe again and repeat. If swinging the sword doesn't move the fox onto the bridge, then I'm either positioned too far right or I'm facing too far right. The required walking speed for this to work seems to be much slower than for the simple setup.
The ONLY purpose of the sword swipe is to quickly move the fox back to where you can retry the trick. Targeting is only useful because it keeps the fox pointed in the appropriate direction for the sword swipe. You can fall off while facing any direction, but if you're not facing somewhere between down and about 30 degrees left of down, the sword swipe won't move you to where you need to be to retry the trick.
In the video, I'm releasing the analog stick between attempts. If you're comfortable going faster, you can tap the sword button each time you move out of the area where the clip can occur while keeping the analog stick in the same position. Just make sure you're still paying attention to your analog stick, because that's what determines if you can clip or not.
This does work on higher framerates, but I found it required a more precise angle to work (still lenient enough for me to eyeball consistently).
== Death drop and Alt+F4 ==
Notice! The use of this trick may not be allowed in leaderboard speedruns in the future.
Step 1: die on the edge of the platform. Step 2: fall off. Step 3: transition to lower Ziggurat during death animation. Step 4: Alt+F4 to forcibly close the game. Step 5: relaunch the game. Step 6: select "Continue" from the title screen. Step 7: ? Step 8: PB. This demonstration was done in windowed fullscreen mode with my monitor running at its default 144 Hz, although I don't know if that makes any difference. I hid my desktop when editing the video, but I did not alter the timing of the video in any way (it was a continuous take). I don't know how precise the Alt+F4 input is; I just waited until I saw the lower Ziggurat load before closing the game and it worked all three times I tried it.
The input display was made by capturing the following gamepad tester: https://gamepad-tester.com/ If you're struggling with consistency, I recommend practicing while having something like this open so you can see exactly where your stick is pointing.
0:00 60 Hz Simple Setup
1:39 60 Hz Sword Swipe
3:20 Ice Dagger Yes Really
3:37 144 Hz Simple Setup
4:28 144 Hz Sword Swipe, bad setup
5:12 144 Hz Sword Swipe
5:39 Alt+F4
