Coming up, I had a blast with my guest today, Walter Egan… a man who many call a one-hit wonder, but that’s too easy... Sure, he created a huge hit in the late 70s, Magnet and Steel, that became a pop culture fixture with 2 legends who sang background vocals on this classic hit from a band that was rock’s big soap opera of the time. One of these backing vocalists, Lindsey Buckingham, is one of the great guitarists of his time and helped produce the song. And the other one, Stevie Nicks, was so enchanting that Walter Egan fell in love with her, and that was a good thing because it’s what inspired today’s classic song… That and a license plate he happened to see on his way home from the studio at 3 in the morning. A custom license plate inspired him to run into his house and finish Magnet and Steel in minutes… So the question is, did he get the girl? Find out next on the Professor of Rock.

Today we have a hybrid show. Revelations where featured artists reveal rare stories about their greatest songs and bottled lightning about a song that ruled the roost for a time… Many call them one-hit wonders; we celebrate them as lightning in a bottle. Today, I have a man who rocked the late 70s with a classic song that has popped up in many iconic movies and shows, including Boogie Nights. And there’s a reason because it elicits a feeling of pure nostalgia, and it came from a license plate, and this artist’s crush on Stevie Nicks.
I’m talking about the 1978 soft rock lightning in a bottle smash Magnet and Steel by Walter Egan. Walter is hilarious, and I had a blast interviewing him…His song had backing vocals by Fleetwood Mac icons Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, with Lindsay producing… He tells a great story about his crush on Stevie and what happened after he showed her the song… Did he get the girl… We also have an interesting conversation about the term yacht rock..IT’s one you won’t want to miss. Here’s the interview.
