Part 3 of 5 of the Turrican Anthology. Being the sequel to quite possibly one of the greatest Amiga games of all time: Turrican 2: The Final Fight, Mega Turrican (Turrican 3) has had a troubled development history.

Factor 5 originally started developing a Turrican 3 for the Amiga right after the critical acclaim of the second game, but as the computer started to lose commercial relevance with the new and now raging console war of Sega and Nintendo, the project was canned. Soon later, the developer decided it could only survive by moving to home consoles, and revived the sequel on the Sega Genesis. But others weren’t ready to watch the Amiga die just yet and Mega Turrican ended up being ported onto the Amiga as Turrican 3.

For the first time, Turrican 3 diverted greatly from the formula of expansive levels in previous installments for a more linear approach. The biggest innovation in the game is the Plasma Rope, which adds a Bionic Commando style swinging mechanic to the mix.

The emphasis is a lot more on shooting action instead of exploration, and even the platforming itself feels different much different because of all the rope-climbing.

While many argue is isn't as groundbreaking as it's predecessors, it's still a solid, action packed blast to play and a decent conclusion to the trilogy (with TONS of action film pop culture references e.g Alien, Terminator, RoboCop and more!!)
