Twin Skyscrapers - 3D Collapse Simulation (Earthquake Structural Failure)
What if a large 68-stories skyscraper would collapse during a powerful earthquake? Watch this 3D simulation to see what happens!
This simulation recreates the ground shaking associated with an intensity of XI on the Mercalli scale.
Large skyscrapers are highly unlikely to collapse in a major earthquake (even larger than magnitude 8) unless they are located extremely close to the quake's epicenter. All tall buildings are made to be flexible in order to transfer the ground shaking energy smoothly throughout their entire structure. It does look scary and it definitely is scarier to feel that amount of swaying inside, but they are designed to behave this way.

I want to remind all of you that my channel's goal is to educate and to bring more insights about what earthquakes truly are - and also to bring more awareness about earthquake preparedness and safety. "Preparation through education
is less costly than learning through tragedy." Max Mayfield

Huge thanks to @CaSeismograph for becoming featured channels! They are streaming a live seismograph from Los Angeles, California, 24/7. Make sure you check all their educational resources on their website! Important!!

This video simulation was created in Blender 3D with the Bullet Constraints Builder extension (BCB by Kai Kostack - a structural simulation code) which extends Blender“s basic physics functionality with a sophisticated toolset to simulate load dynamics in building structures.
