Ubisoft makes a step backwards for Blind Accessibility with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
If you are curious to see how a Blind player approaches gaming I invite you to check out my Hands-on with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on PS5. Sadly, after trying out the game I consider this experience to be a step backwards by Ubisoft when it comes to Blind accessibility.
The text to speech is completely broken, laggy, button proms are not read, tutorials are not narrated, the user interface is cursor based instead of using directional buttons, there is no navigation assist or sound cues that could guide someone who can’t see through the level.
On the good side, the music sounds quite impressive, the voice acting is good and most gamers already know what kind of accessibility the game offers as Ubisoft communicated before launch transparently with the accessibility community, a positive trend which others in our industry should follow suit.
