During the great "x-com draught" many projects sprang up. One was the "UFO" trilogy games and another was this free fan-made X-Com clone named "UFO: Alien Invasion".
The efforts on this seem to have stopped in 2014, a little after the new X-Com games (XCOM) started coming out
