Developed by Blue Sky Production, later Looking Glass Studios, and published by Origin Systems and released in 1992, "Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss" is a 1st person RPG dungeon crawler. Boasting fully textured 3D environments, lighting, realtime combat, puzzle solving, NPC interactions and a non-linear progression, Ultima Underworld is, to me, quite an astonishing PC game considering what I knew of and was playing in 1992.

Once again, the Avatar is called back to the land of Britannia. Appearing in a bedroom, the Avatar is just in time to see a girl be kidnapped by a strange cloaked person and monster.
After a quick trial at the hands of the Baron, the Avatar is condemned to imprisonment in the Stygian Abyss, an underground dungeon complex from which no one escapes. Give the task of either returning with the Baron's daughter or not at all, the Avatar begins exploring this new realm.
