This is a demonstration of additional character slots in UMvC3. At present, character mods are accessed by replacing a color of the original character to contain modified data. This prevents the player from using the original character against the modified character and vice versa, as the game will cache and share the data of the character chosen first. I have written a tool to allow the player to create new character slots that are completely separate from the original characters. For testing, I have placed several character mods onto new slots: DMC1 Dante, Venom, and S.T.A.R.S. Wesker. As they are programmed as new characters, their data no longer conflicts with the original characters (Dante, Trish, and Wesker). This is also reflected in their character IDs (Dante is 7, DMC1 Dante is 60, Trish is 8, Venom is 61, Wesker is 5, and S.T.A.R.S. Wesker is 62). To access them, I used slots occupied by the Marvel and Capcom logos.
The current version of the tool supports 42 out of the 50 characters; the remaining 8 characters use character-specific data that made them incompatible. The tool does not add slots to the character select screen; that is a separate issue I am not looking into until the tool is feature complete.
