Uncharted 3 Remastered: Bad Combat? Hi, I’m Buzz_M1, and today I’m going to discuss my experience with Naughty Dog’s 2011 release, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, the third entry in the illustrious Nathan Drake saga. Just so you know, I’m playing the 2015 remastered edition, available on the Nathan Drake Collection compilation for the PS4.

Anyway, the deal with this game is, it’s great. Definitely worth a shot. You’ve got this great young Indiana-Jones-style story that’s a little schlocky and cornball around the edges, but self-aware enough about it to come off good-humored. You get an entertaining series of well-acted and cinematographed cutscenes to deliver the story; you get this emphasis on over-the-top, edge-of-your-seat, genre-expectation redefining action; and you even get the most cleverly-written banter this side of Pulp Fiction (just kidding!)

On the downside, however, the combat can be super frustrating, especially on your first time through. The difficulty can suddenly spike into the stratosphere, the enemies can one-shot kill you from behind when you’re in cover, you can get stuck in fighting animations while getting shot and grenaded to death. And before long, you’re pulling your hair out, screaming at your TV screen, apostrophizing the good people at Naughty Dog with all manner of profanity until you’re blue in the face. So what’s the deal with that? Is Uncharted 3’s combat actually bad, or is something else going on? That’s what I’m going to talk about here.

Agree or disagree? Please feel free to like and/or leave a comment. And you might even like to subscribe if you get the chance--I would appreciate it!

Anyway, thanks so much for watching and until next time!

Your Friend,
Buzz_M1
