Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Stress Test Beta Review - Revival System, Sidekicks, Mysticals & Rope Swing!
In this thoughts and impressions video or basically a review. I discuss the Uncharted 4 Multiplayer Beta and the features it has. Naughty Dog has really improved the multiplayer from Uncharted 2 and 3 and even takes inspiration from The Last of Us Multiplayer.
-Using a similar revival & down system to The Last of Us Multiplayer
Has anyone noticed that lot of competitive multiplayer games are now using this similar system of you going down for a chance to be revived and get back in the game, instead of just dying. Uncharted 4 uses the same format as The Last of Us, so in most cases this feature was only exclusive to cooperative play and missions, but it is moving over to competitive play as well.
But let me explain why I actually like this new system.
First off it makes the matches more competitive and it definitely encourages teamwork. Your KO score tally isn’t counted yet and if you or your team mate goes down. You have a chance to help him and bring him back in the fight. When you mix that in with the special abilities and perks, which I am going to talk about next..You have to rely on more strategy and team work than before, and it is rewarding you with money to spend on your perks.
Uncharted 3 multiplayer, I really don’t remember if they had a system like that. But one of the things I disliked in a good majority of the competitive matches is they had some special handicap for the losing team so they can try and catch up. See in competitive games, if the losing team then they are just the losing team. UC3 Multiplayer tried to balance out that but giving some ability for them to catch up to the winning team. It was not necessarily an awful system and I understand why it was implemented. But it wasn’t really a way to encourage people to work as a team, and instead just made the game easier for the losing team.
With UC4, I think they managed to fix that and I actually enjoy reviving others and taking cover. It makes the gun fight also feel more crazy and alive.
2. Now let’s discuss the abilities you get in your loadout. One of the main additions to the multiplayer are the side kicks you get to aid you in combat or help revive team members, hell they can pretty much tank for you while you find ways to flank the enemies. I know some people are going to find this kind of thing annoying, since they are actually not that difficult to get. But on the flip side of things, it makes you change your approach on how you plan to fight. You are not only just dealing with the other players but what ever AI the enemy spawns on the map. I had also noticed I could not do any stealth attacks, and maybe it is just for certain load outs, but instead there is a scout that is used to grapple your enemies to take them down.
There is also an ability to buy a heavy weapon like a machine gun or a rocket launcher, we all know well that can go, fortunately costs a good amount and has limited ammo, But the other one that is REALLY interesting, and I am not sure if it necessarily fits the uncharted theme though is Mysticals.
They are basically huge ass stones that do magic damage to your enemies, or provide support by marking them on the mini map or even turns you into someone you would see on Infamous with some super speed dodge that turns you invisible. Now its not that I don’t think they add anything to the multiplayer but I am not 100% sure if they fit with the universe. I am sure they do to a mild extent.
3. The new rope swinging mechanic lets you swing around the map and land punches like you were Indiana Jones and even lets you shoot with your side arm weapons. However I feel like in the Uncharted Beta, there was more an emphasis on this than, the vertical climbing we are used to seeing.
4. So overall I enjoyed the beta a lot and Naughty never fails to deliver on a great single player and multiplayer experience The gunplay is great, the original characters are there.
Be mindful that the single player will be running at 1080p 30fps while the multiplayer is 900p at 60fps. It is a shame the fluid gameplay isn’t going to be replicated on the single player campaign, since I am sure it is possible..
