Here is how it should have been done. It's still pretty hard and depends on the mercs' random movement, but this is probably as fast as I will get. The strategy is the same: get to that spot as quickly as possible and take down as many goons as you can before the brute shows up. Throwing the first grenade helps clearing a few mercs as they funnel through the passageway, and getting extra shotgun ammo is key, the rest of the run was improvised.
