Understanding #Dyslexia in Children - Everything Parents Need to Know | Dyslexia Awareness Month
Most of the teachers ask questions which are not known by the pupil and it's a waste of time. Instead one should ask questions to discover what the pupil knows or is capable of knowing.
You might be thinking what does pupil means in what aspect this video is about then let me end the suspense.
First of all, hello to all viewers , welcome to Planet Ayurveda channel and I am your Ayurveda expert.
The video is about dyslexia as it is 6 October and it’s World Dyslexia Day. In the quote I have mentioned before the pupil is referred to as a child. Dyslexia can be understood as a different brain organization that obviously needs different teaching methods.
Dyslexia is a general term which is used for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters and other symbols. But the thing to understand is it doesn't affect thor general intelligence. It is a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin. It is characterised by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities.
If seen from the Ayurvedic point of view then dyslexia is generally as a result of vata dosha aggravation. Vata dosha due to its chal gunna can cause a lot of problems in adults as well as in children. Dyslexia is a condition which can be present independently but also as a symptom of many cognitive functioning challenging conditions.
-- It is being surveyed that about 40% of the dyslexiac children and adolescents dropout of the schools.
-- AYurveda also believes that learning is a skill which is a result of complex and successive interactions of indriya (sense organs), indriyaartha (sense organs), mana atma and buddhi.
-- Their work is governed by tridosha and triguna, that is sattva, raja and tama guna.
-- In a specific coordination and balance Any disturbance in these Tridosha and Triguna will cause disordered functioning of Indriya, Mana and Buddhi leading to impaired learning or Dyslexia
Dyslexia is one of the commonest learning disabilities.
The cascading effects of dyslexia can adversely affect the self esteem, future goals, peer and family relationships and child’s ability to progress through subsequent developmental stages. But families of a dyslexic child need to understand that this isn’t the fault of a child. He or she never asked for it and if anyone’s child has that problem then search for solutions instead of scolding children for the way they are.
That is the motto of World dyslexia awareness day and World dyslexia awareness week., to spread awareness about dyslexia and what can be done if one has the problem.
Symptoms related to dyslexic children are talking late, taking time to learn things, problems while constructing words like p and q, b and d.
Now the most important part of this video is how Ayurveda can help?
As the condition is due to the vata dosha imbalance mostly along with tri guna imbalance then Ayurvedic herbs like brahmi, ashwagandha, madhuyashti, jyotishmati, guduchi, mandukaparni and shankhpushpi can be of great help due to their impressive effects in enhancing learning abilities, shows improvement in cognitive deficits and behavioural problems.
All these herbs with various educational techniques will definitely help in improving the child’s problem with learning
At the last of this video I would like to state that
Dyslexia is never the child’s fault but instead the responsibility of us who teach to find methods that work for that child.
