Understanding Hemophilia an Inherited Bleeding Disorder and it's Types, Causes and Treatment
Hemophilia: An Inherited Bleeding Disorder
Hemophilia, the royal disorder, gained fame in the 20th century. It is a genetic bleeding disorder that affected several European royal families. They inherited the disorder, in turn, from Britain’s Queen Victoria and her descendants.
The disorder is caused due to lower levels of clotting factor in one’s blood. Thus, people with haemophilia suffer severe bleeding even with very small injuries. Men are more prone to inheriting it. Currently, Haemophilia occurs in one in 5,000 male births.
It is important to remember that Haemophilia is only inherited. It is not a contagious disorder. Do you have more questions?
