January 7th, 1942: Soviet forces in Leningrad are on starvation rations, and incapable of offensive operations - relief will have to come from outside the surrounded city. The Volkhov Front unites several separate armies with that in mind. An ambitious Soviet plan here contemplates a complex two-pronged operation, aimed at nothing short of the complete destruction of the besieging German 18th Army.

In Moscow '41 you take control of Soviet forces as they deliver blow after blow to an overextended Wehrmacht during their winter counteroffensives of 1941/42. Though battered and bruised, German armies will prove mighty opponents for the less experienced Red Army, which must also contend with overly ambitious objectives set forth by the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.
