Minecraft Legends appears to be a very different type of Minecraft game, but one that maintains the elements that made the series so popular: a colorful voxel-based world full of inventive creatures, open-ended adventure, and of course, building. This will be Minecraft's first attempt at an action-strategy game, and it looks like a good entry point to the genre for younger Minecraft players. Whether you're a new Minecraft fan, or have eagerly played everything over the years, from the original to the recent Minecraft Dungeons spin-off, then Minecraft Legends has probably caught your interest.
Announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2022, Minecraft Legends is a realtime strategy game from Blackbird Interactive, developers of Crossfire: Legion and Homeworld 3. In Minecraft Legends, you will "lead your allies in heroic battles to defend the Overworld from the destructive piglins".
Legends plans to take us on a sprawling adventure through the biomes of Minecraft's overworld, vacuuming up resources to build defenses from piglin forces, who are invading from the Nether. You'll bring together enemies like skeletons and creepers to turn them into your allies against the evil Nether's invasion. And best of all: your friends can hop onboard for online co-op!
Since the original reveal, Mojang has kept info to a careful drip about the details of commanding your mob allies in Legends. But one thing we know for sure is that you'll be doing quite a lot of riding around on a mount like a blocky knight in diamond armor.
In fact, the first cinematic trailer ever released by Mojang shows us that Minecraft Legends "tells the story of the Overworld uniting against an invasion by the ravenous piglins. According to the legend, only you can bring together the mobs of the Overworld and help them defend their home."
Based on that, it makes a lot of sense that we see the player riding their horse at the head of an army full of creepers, zombies, and skeletons. It looks like longtime enemies are all going to come together to kick the piglins back into the Nether.
