Uro & Scute Swarm to be Banned in Standard? WOTC MTG Tweet Suggests Changes [Sept 2020]
In this video, Jake and Joel discuss the current Standard meta, now that Zendikar Rising has been released. If you have played any Standard (type 2) Magic: the Gathering in 2020, you know that Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath is one of the most powerful cards to grace/destroy the game. A WotC tweet, on September 22, 2020, suggest changes for the format. A powerhouse in Standard, Uro also has eternal application in Pioneer, Modern, EDH and even Legacy formats. This is notable because most eternal formats have a very small pool of useful (best-in-slot) cards. The fact that Uro is so powerful in many formats, suggests it is likely too powerful for Standard; this is because the pool of cards in any given Standard format is far more abbreviated than any other format, so having a multi-format powerhouse can really warp things around one card. All of this considered, Uro will likely be hit with a ban. Theros Beyond Death came out a while ago, and the card has had time to shine.
And it is likely that WotC will not ban a card that just came out of Zendikar Rising, unless of course the card is Scute Swarm, a new card from Zendikar Rising that is causing a lot of crazy combos. From a technical perspective, Scute Swarm is absolutely breaking arena (watch the opening of this video). Will Scute get hit with a ban for quality-of-life improvements on MTG Arena? Join the discussion in the comments. Is Uro going to get hit with a ban for being too powerful? Check out the video to find out. As always, thank you for spending your time with us.
