Utopia, a British dark comedy from Channel 4, is far from the idyllic setting implied by its title, but it is its use of violence that makes the tv series so interesting. Unlike the violent media we might be used to, Utopia manages to make these scenes uniquely uncomfortable.
This analysis focuses on how Utopia uses its composition, colour, character and plot to heighten tension and ensure we are never quite at home in any scene.
