I'm synthesizing a growl bass with Zyn-Fusion (ZynAddSubFX) using Ardour. I'm demonstrating how to use Zyn-Fusion's Macro Learn for automation, and how to use Ardour's Pin Connections to do multiband processing all within a single track's plugin stack (no extra busses!).
