The new Version 63 update is going to kill modding, and it is quite a big deal! Let me explain what's going on because this will affect the entire Meta VR Community and what you can do to try and stop it.
So if you have modded any game on the Meta Quest, whether it's Blade and Sorcery, Bonelab, or others, you've probably heard of Mobile VR Station. This app effectively allows you to do all manner of things, from installing APK files to adding mods to games without the need for any additional hardware like a PC or wire.
Here are some of the videos I have made using this app. If you are still using these methods to mod your games, then you will be unable to continue using these methods after update V63 drops onto your headset, which will remove your ability to access the scoped state of your headset files, effectively eliminating Mobile VR Station's ability to mod games without the need for a PC or wire. So for those who mod Blade and Sorcery Nomad, you'll have to use the built-in mod loader inside the game, or you can use a PC to manually move files back and forth between the headset and PC. But Bonelab is a different story. After V63 is installed on your headset, your ability to mod without a PC will completely disappear as it does not have a built-in mod feature, and you'll only be able to mod Bonelab with a PC, phone, or other device. This will render Bonelab absolutely useless for those who don't have the extra tools to mod the game. And the same goes for any game that requires access to scoped storage in Mobile VR Station, which is most of the games that you can mod. The worst thing is that it's not even something that's mentioned in the update notes. Effectively, they are stopping you from accessing your own device files and are doing so through the backdoor.
So what can you do?
Well, I don't think there is much we can do other than create a hashtag and complain to Meta themselves, and if enough people complain, it might get reversed. So let's use the hashtag #MystorageMychoice. Make sure to share this hashtag on Facebook, Twitter, everywhere. Share this video to let others know of the change, and in the description, I have put a link to the Meta webchat where you can complain using that exact hashtag. Basically, tell everyone to do the same, and hopefully, we can reverse this change.
