転生の宴 by Hitoshi Sakimoto/Square 2000

Quite light-handed this time on the reverb...

This is the ultimate occurence of the Crimson Blades/Romeo Guildenstern's motif (primarily played by trombone in this piece), even though a very short section of this motif makes a final appearance in the intro of the final battle "Grotesque Being" (異形の者, another MIDI sequence I should take time to revise). It is by design unmelodious, syncopated rhythm of few notes to make it sound villainous.

It's not hard to analyze, but its structure makes it very subtle to the players whenever Guildenstern makes his appearance during cutscenes, a stark contrast to Ashley and Joshua's more melodic motives. Another character motif in Vagrant Story with similar characteristics is Jan Rosencrantz's probably for strengthening the allusion to Rosencrantz (rosary) and Guildenstern (golden star) from Shakespeare's play, "Hamlet" (trivia: A character named "Ophelia" is in this play as well, origin of FFT's Ovelia?)

Audio visualization done in Unity 2017.1 for practice. It only samples 1 band of frequency for simplicity's sake. I just borrow the example code in the "get spectrum data" API to control the speed and emission of the particles.
