Vancouver In Deep Freeze : Winter Storm Paralyzes Canada With High Wind And Thunder! Canada Weather
When a few innocent snowflakes turned into a raging blizzard, Vancouver ground to a halt under layers of snow measured in feet. Howling winds and bitter cold paralyzed the city on January 17th, 2024. Schools closed early and public transit faced delays from ice and snow piling up. Incredibly, Vancouver International Airport continued operations as the whiteout intensified. With blowing snow reducing visibility to just feet, wind speeds exceeded 90km/hr. Over 50 flights were cancelled and countless more delayed. Furious passengers crowded customer service demanding answers. Fights broke out as tensions flared. Even more shockingly, the most critical runway remained blocked by hard-packed snow drifts. The travel chaos triggered would cascade across Canada for weeks. With roads impassable, seaports frozen and the airport operating minimally, Vancouver was effectively at a standstill.
