"VGM Essentials" is a new series of albums from Firaga Records shining a spotlight on the best talent in VGM remixing. The very first album in the series, "VGM Essentials: Ben Briggs", was completed in a 14-day period and nearly all of the process was streamed on Ben's Twitch channel. Footage captured from these sessions is being edited into a plethora of extra content, including a full documentary, to be released alongside the album release and periodically throughout the future.
In this episode, Ben Briggs hosts a listening party where his collaborators listen through "VGM Essentials: Ben Briggs" for the first time together, giving their reactions & impressions while discussing various topics related to the album creation process and their relationships throughout the years. This is the first piece of supplementary content to be enjoyed alongside the record, and features candid commentary / album discussion from RoboRob, Mega Flare, Vector U, Baircave, nokbient, Catmosphere (a.k.a. arthur x medic), and Ben Briggs himself as they recall funny moments & relevant details from the 2-week long process of crunching out an album together.
Note: This podcast does not include the music from the album itself, but specific elements and ideas from the music are discussed in great detail; why we love the album, the stresses and pitfalls, the unique & emergent storytelling that happens when creating an entire album live on Twitch, and much more.
"VGM Essentials: Ben Briggs" releases on July 22, 2022, and features 12 remixes from all across Ben's childhood; covering Chrono Trigger, Killer Instinct, Zelda, Mario, Diddy Kong Racing, Sonic and more. 9 collaborators in total teamed up to bring you the most mind-blowing trip down Nostalgia Lane possible, and we hope you can hear how much we enjoyed making it, both within the music itself and within our conversations found in the supplementary content.
