6As a Rook base capture attempt was falling apart (a not uncommon occurrence, I have to admit), I noticed I was the only Rook still flying in the area. I slid through a mountain pass and started working my way north to return to base. There was a Ki-84 to the west, a FW 190A-5 to the east, with a Iast Ki-84 following at a distance. After carefully checking radar, I saw that I had a short window to engage the trailing Ki-84 with a reasonable chance of success.
Turned out the Ki was being flown by Pheasant, one of the best Ki pilots that I regularly fight. I might have surprised him a bit when I turned to fight, but at any rate, it was a sharp and clean fight.
