Video Script:
It has been just under one week since Victoria 3 has gone out to the public and several since I have had vic3, and there certainly has been mixed experiences. Some, especially higher level reviewers or never fans have given the game great praise, others have pointed out major issues with the game, and how they could really be improved. Here I state out 5 major issues of vic3.
Number One, The War System. At this point the system has become a bit of a meme, but in general it simply it lacking to much, battles are unengaging on both the navy and army front. The frontline system itself is clunky and uninteresting and there is to little autonomy to properly feel as if you are taking your nation into a new phase of gameplay. Paradox here could really spend some time offering more war commands, allowing for great control of where to advance, and expanding on what is happening during war.
Number two, Flavor or lack there of. Many nations as I alluded to in previous videos just feel barebones, lacking significant journal entires or unique events, while many at paradox seemed to want to make each game unique, having unhistorical world goes from making a game unique to making it annoying as a player to look at. Paradox here could railroad the game some more, or offer a historical and unhistorical version of simulating like hearts of iron 4, allowing for players to have accurate US civil wars, colonization of Africa, formation of Germany etc… while keeping some of the wildness of the current game, similarly paradox can expand over time on the event chains of nations and add in unique interest groups and government types, this is one thing that paradox has show great ability to do so in Stellaris, EU4 and Hoi4 and I imagine can make almost every nation with time extremely unique.
Number three, The AI, this relates back partially to the lack of flavor, but the AI in Victoria 3, heavily unperform even a semi-decent player. They poorly manage economies, will consistently mismanage wars, and randomly occupy parts of the world or no apart reason. The AI in turn make the game from being semi-fun at times to being extremely annoying and disappointing, if paradox used a system they already had in place like regional interest to better curtail AI colonizations, and made the ai more likely to improve there economy and not do outlandish things, vic3 would be drastically improved.
Number four, the UI. I know personally this is this a partially controversial topic, but I feel that the VIC3 UI is quite clunky, having far to many overlaps in where information is stored, what tabs stay open, and where to find things you are looking for. Similarly, while the map is pretty the map modes need to be better defined to describe information without difficulty. For example the political map lacks clarity for most wars and can become easily crowded, while the more zoomed-in map can be hard to explain what is happening around a region.
Number Five, I wish to discuss is the issues with micro in Victoria 3 and controlling your nation. In VIC2 it was easy to automate many features of the economy, allowing capitalist to build factories for you, and for the game to buy the goods you needed, while the ai did not do a perfect job it left room you a player to focus on political and diplomatic issues, which I personally find the most fun in Paradox games. In the case of VIC3, the limited amount of autonomation means you constantly have to micromanage you economy, consistently having to go in and make sure your production types are correct, you are not missing a certain amount of goods, but also don’t have to much of goods. I Paradox can bring back automated market interactions and allow maybe some form of the capitalistic building mechanic to return to not leave all nations as market economies alone.
Overall, there are certainly major problems with vic3, but I believe paradox can work to amend them if they seriously listen to their player base and take these issues to heart. Sincerely, WonderProductions
