Vinland Saga: Was I Wrong? Who Cares About Realism Anyway?
5,415Is there such a thing as "too anime"? For me that's a yes, although it's entirely based on personal subjective taste of course. In a previous video I talked about the TV series Vinland Saga (based on the Japanese manga series of the same name), and why I don't watch it. In hindsight I was unnecessarily harsh on it, for arguably the wrong reasons.
Particularly when it comes to the exaggerated action scenes and superhuman feats, which seem out of place in a mundane, historical Viking setting. But is it really mundane? If it's based on the old Norse sagas, well... there are stories involving magic and larger-than-life heroes. So you could argue it's true to the source material, at least to an extent.
So in this video I talk about my opinion on some nuances of realistic / historically accurate settings in fiction and give you a brief intro to the different types of Icelandic sagas.
