“Universal Payment Channel” (UPC) initiative is being developed by Visa’s research team. Its mission is to serve as a “universal adapter” for various blockchain systems, including cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and central bank currencies. Credit cards will start supporting USD Coin (USDC) in 2020 thanks to a partnership between Visa and Circle.
