Voice Acting Demo~Ridley's Immortal Fury
This video serves as both a tribute video to my favorite Nintendo villain of all time as well as a voice acting demo. Contrary to what Other M might have fans believe, Ridley's an intelligent, tactical beast capable of speech. For all the shit that Sakamoto wanted to use from the manga, you think he might've expanded on that little detail while Samus is cowering in fear of him, no? So the question when giving Ridley a voice was how to encompass all of his character traits into something that made sense? How does one capture his primal beast tendencies, combine it with a sadist, give it an eloquent speech pattern, and still make it sound like a character. I envisioned two voices for Ridley, one resembling a Starscream-esque voice, similar to General Scales from Star Fox Adventures, as well as a much lower voice, similar to Alduin from TES: Skyrim. Being unable to decide which to go with, I suddenly decided to put both pitches together, and at least in my opinion, it turned out much better than I expected. After all, he's still an alien life form, so he shouldn't necessarily sound human either.
The premise for the monologue is something Ridley might have said to Samus prior to their first battle on Zebes during Metroid/Zero Mission. It's a shame Other M failed to actually mention that Ridley had a character, no? At least I use the only good song from that forgettable soundtrack, the awesome Ridley orchestral arrangement.
