Vortex emulation tests - Title Screen/Attract - Hardware vs SNES9x vs BSNES vs SD2SNES
After 40 minutes:
BSNES is ~18s ahead of real hardware.
SD2SNES is ~29s ahead of real hardware.
SNES9x is so far ahead I didn't bother to count. I think it's over a minute and a half though.
Takeaway is, no emulation is particularly accurate on the title screen speed over time, but BSNES and SD2SNES aren't terrible. SNES9x, and virtually all other emulation that tackles Super FX aren't even close.
Within game I suspect BSNES and SD2SNES are slightly more accurate to hardware, but given that SNES9x is full attract mode cycles ahead, it's far too inaccurate to matter.
We probably shouldn't allow emulation at all, but I refuse to do that, and if it comes to it I'd rather separate out the board. I'd much rather have the game be accessible to folks. Given the speed differences though, we still can't really allow SNES9x and other less accurate emulators to compete if we do that though.
