How do you add a 3D upgrade to the original Doom without relying completely on inappropriate Polygon models? The answer is to take the 2D pixel sprites throughout the game and to voxelise them, Minecraft-style. The result is quite extraordinary, as Alex Battaglia reveals in this video.
