After mulling over what I wanted my character to look like, I decided on...well...this.

Anyways: Hardcore isn't exactly a harrowing experience or anything (although some parts are harder than others), but it is actually possible to die unlike with the other difficulty settings, so some degree of care must be taken.

When facing a group of enemies in the absence of good crowd-control weaponry/abilities, exploiting right hand advantage is a good idea (if you're unfamiliar with that concept: it basically means hiding around a corner/behind an object so your character is protected while the targeting reticle is unblocked so you can fire at enemies without them being able to hit you back).

The Heavy Pistol and Alien Pistol are nice early on because they can take out most enemies with a single headshot without needing to be upgraded, and they're pinpoint accurate even at long range. While not quite as accurate, the Automatic and Alien Rifles are similarly good when going for headshots regardless of upgrades.
