WADs with Seth: Restoring Deimos: Ep. 1: Deimos Gardens
Suggested by Ryan Besco! Thank you so much! Restoring Deimos was made by a mapper named Wymes, with a 4 year development cycle, released in 2015. This is a mega WAD, meaning it's a 30 level map-pack, and takes some time to beat; my average on each play was about 4 hours or so, give or take. You do need a modern source port to play this, with a bound key for "swim up" and "swim down", and I recommend mouse-look at some sections to avoid some unfair damage; my source port is always GZdoom, I've used it for years, and probably won't ever change it.
In terms of design, I think this WAD is very good, but a lot of it tends to shift towards the end of it, as I feel the overuse of Arch-viles and Chaingunners really gets taxing, to the point where the player either expects to be killed instantly, or isn't given enough time/cover to react properly to incoming damage - yet, from my experience at mapping, I can safely say, making 30+ levels of the same quality, consistency, and freshness is VERY hard to do, and I still praise this map-set highly, despite some of the low points.
Some levels have a very Scythe-like feel to them, which really tickles my fancy, as well as influences of maps from the Hell Revealed series, and I find it very refreshing, with nice throw-backs to classic Doom maps, great choice of music (In Memory really makes me smile), fun gimmick levels (map 24 in particular), and a good blend of challenge and fun.
