The game's plot revolves around Spider-Man as he attempts to clear his name after being framed by a doppelgänger and becomes a wanted criminal, and must also thwart a symbiote invasion orchestrated by Doc Ock and Carnage. Numerous comic book villains appear as bosses, including Scorpion, Reno, Venom, Mysterio, Carneg, and Doc Ock, as well as a possessed Carneg symbiote Doc Ock named Ock. A monster that was created solely to play as the final boss. The story is narrated by co-creator Stan Lee and is the first Spider-Man game published by Activision since acquiring a license that expired in 2014.
