So here's what kept going wrong:

1.) The slimes tend to "lock on" to one target and chase them. Usually this is Sabra because, well, let's face it right now she sucks. So I'd be moving Sabra around trying to get out of Mina's way and the slimes would move up/down accordingly. Then it combined with...

2.) Mina stubbornly refused to move forward. Her first move is always the same unless there are enemy units right where the reinforcements appear. She kept moving so that two panels of her command aura where adjacent to a great slime, killing off the little slimes, then throwing the two units she could at the great slime and getting nowhere fast. Those guardsmen really need three panels of access to reliably kill a great slime with forest cover. Plus she needs to move forward far enough that the slimes approaching from the east can hit a wall of guardsmen and be slaughtered wholesale.
