Watch Dogs: Legion is an action-adventure game, developed by Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft. It is the third instalment in the Watch Dogs series, and the sequel to Watch Dogs 2. The game is set within an open world, fictionalised representation of London, and will feature the ability to control multiple characters that can be recruited across the game's setting and who can be permanently lost during the course of a playthrough if players have the permadeath option enabled, providing a more dynamic influence on the game's narrative. The game will also feature a cooperative multiplayer that will allow up to four players to work together. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Stadia on 29 October 2020, as well for the Xbox Series X/S on 10 November 2020, and for the PlayStation 5 on 12 November 2020 as a launch title for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. The game's story focuses on the London branch of hacker group DedSec, as they attempt to liberate the city from its dystopian surveillance state by recruiting allies from London's inhabitants. At the same time, the group focuses on investigating a string of terrorist attacks they were framed for, and who orchestrated them, discovering a deep conspiracy centered around the head of a private military company. Watch Dogs: Legion takes place within a fictionalised representation of near future London;[3][4] the setting encompasses notable landmarks, boroughs, and cultural styles of the city, such as the political borough of Westminster. Since the events of Watch Dogs 2, technology has vastly changed as a result of an acceleration of automation and artificial intelligence (AI), which has effectively improved Britain's economy at the cost of many blue and white collar jobs, with the British Pound having been overtaken by cryptocurrencies. AR and VR systems are commonplace across the city, with an increase in drones and electric cars, and the introduction of driverless cars, much of which is enhanced through the use of ctOS (central Operating System) - the centralized computer network developed by technology company Blume. The game focuses on DedSec - a hacker group consisting of various branches across the world, who fight against authority regimes and groups that utilise ctOS for their own goals at the expense of ordinary citizens. Their main enemies include Albion - a private military company that takes over as law enforcement across London - and Clan Kelley - a criminal syndicate that has monopolised the use of the dark web, conducting human trafficking and abductions amongst other crimes.
