Marvel Studios has recently began production on the Black Widow standalone movie. While we don’t know when the film will be coming out or what the plot will be, it’s very likely that the Black Widow movie will be an origin story film.
In Avengers: Endgame, Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, and Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, went back in time to 2014 where they traveled to Vormir in order to collect the soul stone. There, the two found out that the only way to obtain the soul stone is to sacrifice the thing they love the must. As we all now, Natasha ended up forcing Hawkeye to sacrifice her to get the soul stone, something that resulted in her death.
Black Widow has had a long and interesting journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and, now that we know how her arc ends, it’ll make sense to see how her story started. It’s very possible that the Black Widow standalone film will be taking place years before the Avengers ever assembled and even before Tony Stark became Iron Man. The film could show Natasha Romanoff’s origins as a soviet spy and assassin before she defected and joined S.H.I.E.L.D.
Seeing Black Widow’s early days could lead to some interesting stories and it could set up new characters and revisit old ones. As a spy and assassin, the film could be an action thriller which showcases Black Widow at her best as she travels the world and goes after her former masters in the Red Room and the KGB.
