The narrative of the 18th Century military hospital is just as popularly known as that of the battles which sent them there. But, what is often less discussed, is the space in-between. Once a soldier had been shot or otherwise wounded, how did they get to that hospital? Were there formal means of medical transportation during the 18th Century, or were more irregular methods applied for their evacuation? When systems eventually did change for the better, why did it take so long? -
