[EDIT] so after more debate and much testing, my current TL;DR idea of this is:
the OAAB_update tool works, but after applying it don't do a Mash repair all on the saves, be sure to reload the saves in game (ignore the starting error messages) and make a new save from there, then you can safely use Mash on the new saves
And yes, changing identifiers is still EVIL
