When Anakin was 9 years old he was mocked by his best friend and his crush about the fact that he never finished a race. Despite Master Yoda's warning, Anakin Skywalker was trained as a Jedi knight. However, those hollow words Padme spoke to him haunted him forever. Even after killing an entire village of Sand People, Padme was not satisfied.
Realizing that he could not finish a race as a Jedi, Anakin turned to the darkside and attempted to wipe out the Jedi. After being defeated by his former master, Anakin, now Darth Vader, realized that the best way to finish a race was to use the Death Star. Even though Pademe had passed 20 years prior, Anakin found peace knowing that he ended the entire Alderaan race.
