Every great story needs a hero—and that hero always needs a worthy enemy. You can't have legends without struggle. And in the Elder Scrolls universe, we’re given a world full of epic tales and monumental battles. Heroes rise, villains fall… or sometimes, the other way around.
But there’s one thing I absolutely love about this universe: nothing is ever truly black and white. Everything exists in shades of gray. The good guys? They’re not always purely good. And the bad guys? They’re rarely just evil for the sake of it. Every faction, every character, every action—they all have reasons. Justifications. A belief that what they’re doing is right.
This isn’t just true for Morrowind’s living gods, or Tamriel’s great conqueror Tiber Septim. It applies to Ulfric Stormcloak, the face of rebellion in Skyrim’s civil war… and yes, even to the Thalmor—arguably the most hated faction in the series.
In this video, I want to dive into something a bit more controversial. What if the elves—the ones many of us see as the ultimate villains—aren’t completely wrong? What if the Thalmor… might actually have a point? Let’s explore this uncomfortable idea together and dig deeper into the messy world of morality in the Elder Scrolls.
