In this video I talk about the difference between first (1st), second (2nd), and third (3rd) party games and developers. I also describe the relationship between a publisher and developer. We also will go over a brief history of the Nintendo's relationship with both Gamefreak (Pokemon developer) and Rare (Banjo Kazooie developer). We will also touch on how much shares or stake a publisher owns can affect the publisher and developer relationship. The example we use is Microsoft and Rare.
2nd party is basically a colloquial term that can mean different things. What is important to understand is the relationship between a publisher, a developer, and the franchise or Intellectual Property (IP).
