What Is $GetCurrent Folder and Is It Safe to Delete It?

If you've noticed you have two folders named $GetCurrent and $WINDOWS.~BT, then you might want to know what they are for and if you can delete them. Here's all you need to know.

This tutorial explains the $GetCurrent folder and if it is safe to delete it? If you’ve ever encountered the $GetCurrent folder while looking for unnecessary folders to free up space on your Windows PC, you might be thinking, what kind of a folder is the $GetCurrent folder, why is it taking so much space on your PC, and can you safely delete this folder? This post answers all these questions.

Issues addressed in this tutorial:

what is the $getcurrent folder
what is $getcurrent folder windows 10

The $GetCurrent folder is a hidden folder that is created in the root directory of the C drive during the upgrade process.

The $GetCurrent folder contains log files about the last Windows 10 upgrade process, and may also contain the installation files for that update. The $GetCurrent folder can take up around 3.38 GB or so of space if it does contain leftover Windows Update installation files. Otherwise, it would only be around a small 192 KB in size.

Windows 10 automatically creates the $GetCurrent and $SysReset folders in your C:\ drive in certain situations. These folders can use gigabytes of space, but what do they do, and can you delete them?

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Alienware, Razer, MSI, Huawei , Microsoft Surface, and Samsung.
