A quick video explaining what hyper-threading does/is.
Basically its a way of trying to keep a CPU core has busy as possible, by giving it an extra lane (allowing it to queue up more stuff). This does not mean suddenly the CPU can now do two things at once, but remain busy. This is why hyper-threading can increase performance.
Just a quick addition; if youre OS isnt aware of physical/logical cores, it could potentially queue up traffic in the wrong roads; leaving one cpu extremely busy, whilst another cpu is idle.
