This video goes over what is Linux, why people use Linux, and give an origin of Linux Explained.

So what is Linux?
It is a completely free, open source operating system modeled after UNIX. It is extremely efficient and runs on a millions of devices. From android smart phones, tv set top boxes to personal computers. Simply put, it is software that can be installed on almost any device to display videos, or make telephone calls, or to be a lightweight windows alternative for computers.

Origin
-Based on UNIX which was created in 1969 by Bell Laboratories which was used by mainframes and enterprise systems in the 80s but was not suitable for desktop PCs.
-Linus Torvalds was a student at U of Helsinky and wanted a freely available academic version of UNIX and started coding it in 1991.
-A core group of UNIX enthusists started compiling hardware lists and expanding the "Linux" project to be compatible with a large variety of hardware
-2 Years after its inception they were more than 12000 linux users
-Fast forward 25 years to today and it is widely used around the world in almost every server environment and more than half the smartphones in existence.

Why are people using Linux?
-Very stable, and almost every website is hosted on Linux.
-Runs on Anything - Seriously, it can be run on almost anything
-Secure - Being open source and used in many enterprise spaces means it is far more secure than windows because fellow coders can find bugs and submit them to be fixed.
