Not a scripted scene, not holding your hand in any way, this is what I play games for. The fact that all this madness can occur in-game at this level of detail with no loading just blows me away. There may be another game to drop this year that tops it, and yours might be different than mine, but for me right now Dragon's Dogma 2 is on top.

But it does have problems.

As you may be aware, performance is horrible for this game at the moment. I'm thankful enough to have a fairly powerful PC, so I'm able to play this game at max settings. But if you're rocking anything but the latest CPU + GPU you may want to avoid this game for the time being, and that's a perfectly valid reason for doing so. If you're a console player, I recommend watching Digital Foundry's analysis videos of this game's performance and making your own judgement.

I'm using several mods as well in this footage, which I'll link below

I'll talk a bit about the microtransaction situation if you're curious about my take. The amount of MTX this game offers does put a bad taste in my mouth, and I'd prefer that they didn't exist, but its important to know that the game itself does not encourage you to purchase them at all. They are never advertised in game, and all offered MTX items can be found through normal gameplay. They're just there for impatient players with more money than they know what to do with to waste it on convenience. You can find plenty of Portcrystals throughout your playthrough, and character editing items can be bought dirt cheap from the first town in the game.

Some have compared this game's MTX situation to RE4 and have wondered why that game seemed to avoid much negative press from it. This is for a few reasons, in the case of RE4 Capcom dubiously waited to release any MTX until weeks after that game launched, after reviews were posted and initial press had cratered. And to a lesser extent, DD2's other issues make this game an easier nail to hammer. If anything, RE4's MTX are much worse, offering unique weapons that are only available for additional purpose.

I shouldn't need to clarify this, but I'm not defending predatory microtransactions. It's just important to not fall prey to misinformation and to draw your own conclusions before getting caught up in the Twitter hate mob. If you won't play the game because of the MTX you have the right to do so, but for me personally I won't skip a game because of something I can easily ignore.

TLDR; MTX bad, misinformation bad, game good

I must say though, the fact that you cannot start a new file and are currently stuck with the first character you make (unless modding) is insane, and its wild that this game shipped without that basic feature.
