Normally in the Pokemon FireRed Elite 4 Round 2 Speedrun we postpone fighting Lt. Surge until way later in the run. This is because mainly use Squirtle, Wartortle and Blastoise during the run and Surge is obviously a bad matchup. In the any% speedrun you cannot afford to delay fighting Surge but in FRR2 we can. Early Surge does save you time because you can use Fly earlier. If you delay Surge, you have to have party space for Abra and backtrack later on. But, as mentioned, early Surge is a bad matchup and can easily cost you the run so you only really do it when needed. This run needed it...

Pokemon Fire Red Elite 4 Round 2 means the run ends after beating Elite 4 for the second time! The Elite 4 have better and higher levelled Pokemon this time around. In order to unlock the second round, you have to first unlock the National Dex, which requires you to capture 60 unique Pokemon. During a normal Pokemon Speedrun the catching of Pokemon is limited to Pokemon that will be used for HM's like Fly and Surf. In Pokemon FireRed E4R2 the catching of 60 unique Pokemon adds a whole new element to the run and requires on the fly adaptation and a lot of game knowledge.
