π The observatory at Multnomah Falls, located in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon, was built by Simon Benson. Simon Benson was a prominent businessman and philanthropist in Portland, Oregon, during the early 20th century. He owned the Multnomah Hotel (now called the Embassy Suites Portland - Downtown) and played a significant role in the development of the Columbia River Highway and the promotion of tourism in the area. Benson's vision for the observatory was to provide visitors with a closer and more immersive experience of the majestic Multnomah Falls. The observatory was completed in 1925 and has since become a popular attraction for visitors to the falls.
